Try Feminax tablets from the pharmacy. They are specially for period pain.

Drinking more water helps. If you drink the reccomended 3 litres a day (maybe even a bit more) it helps lessen the pain and also avoids bloating/water retention. Also avoid anything with chilis in as this can actually increase pain (the myth that eating hot curries can induce "late" babies should be ignored for this same reason). Try a warm bath with some relaxing oils in or a massage with armoatherapy oils, especially on the lower back.

I always find its worse if I eat junk food that month and I'm sure I read that toxins in your body collect in your womb lining and cause you problems (not sure if that's true).
The one thing that definitely works though is to sit on the floor and put the soles of your feet together as near to your body as possible. This will stop even the worst pain, but only as long as you are sat there, but might be enough respite to help you cope with it the rest of the day.

She should take evening primrose oil capsules every day. A week before her period is due she should up her carbohydrate and sugar intake, not massively, say two biscuits a day or something, this should continue through her period week. This is supposed to help reduce period pain and also pmt symptoms.
I know it sounds crazy when your stomach, back and legs are cramping but walking will help much more than curling up!

Advil, Advil, Advil! She needs to start taking the Advil as SOON as she feels the first twinge of cramping, even if she's not bleeding yet. Then keep taking it every 4 hours. Advil is hard on our stomachs, so make sure she takes it with food, or at least a glass of milk.
A heating pad on the tummy and/or low back also helps.
Lately for me, using tampons actually makes the cramping worse, so tell her to try just using pads and see if that makes a difference.

A heating pad, warm bath, or an over the counter pms medication. And I know this may sound weird...but exercise will also help.

Try drinking herbal teas and having warm baths. If this doesn't work then tell her to go see her gp coz it might be constipation, thrush or clymidia.

i asked my ob/gyn about this because i have excruciating menstrual cramps...so he said that AS SOON as you start to feel the SLIGHTEST cramp, then grind up an aspirin and drink a cup of water...he said that aspirin is a bood thinner and it helps the uterus to contract more smoothly...i havent tried it yet but he says its proven to work...i hope so
