In medicine there are usually more to a diagnosis than just right shoulder pain or heart hurts. In medicine they use their own lingo to help to better determine the cause and issues associated with the problem. There are terms like lateral, pronation, supinations, etc that simply describe differnet movements of the body. This could be very important if a person had a hand injury that only hurt during certain movements. This language and terms is somthing that doctors use to better share info betwen themselves and be more thorough with their work. Also, sometimes it is best for doctors to speak in terms a patient doesn't understand in the process of making a diagnosis. Then once a final decisions is made to be able to go to the patient and better explain it to them. It helps prevent stress for a patient

Well you didn't specify which medical term you were looking for. However to indicate the right eye is occular dexter or od. Left eye is occular sinister or o.s. The left side of the body was considered evil. People who were left handed in the old days were forced to write with their right hands because they were thought to be one with the devil if they didn't.
