Why are science teachers so boring?

My Advanced Biology teacher reads the book to us in class. HELLO? I can read the book myself, make me want to remember this stuff!!!

I know the answer to this question.

Credentials: I am a teacher (for a zillion years)>I teach science> and I (like you)(I looked at your 360) just finished my masters while working full time.

However, (actually two howevers) I will only give out this wisdom if you tell me how to get a picture by my 'Answers' rather than that dorkie 'Aviator'. The other 'however' is, since you are doing the things you're doing (school, work, etc.) you probably know the answer and are just being rhetorical due to frustration.

I am 68 years old, and my biology teacher read the book to us too. You have brought back some awful memories, but you also have alerted people that teachers like this do exist and should be driven out of the profession. Also, I have evaluated many science teachers, and most were excellent and far from boring. Unfortunately, right now you have a poor excuse for a teacher!! You deserve better!! From a teacher and high school principal of 40 years.

I'm so sorry that you got stuck with a lousy teacher. I can guarantee you that not all science teachers are like that. I'm a science professor, and I've never been accused of being boring! I've read my "reviews" on ratemyprofessor.com - the worst thing said about me is that I can be a little scatter-brained at times (which is true). But I've also been told that I am a dynamic speaker and that I do spark interest in science in my students.

Teachers like the one you have give the rest of us a bad name, I'm affraid. Unfortunately there are so few people who want to become science teachers. I wish I knew how to fix that!

All of my science teachers were great! Expecially in middle school. She probably wants to SEE you read it, because some people in the class do not always do their work and she wants to make sure she gave you time to study and get good grades. In a way, it is so she cannot be blamed for you getting a bad grade. Not saying YOU would, but there are som people who choose to ignore school work and end up working at Jack in the Box the rest of their life.

Benzhowz is probably dead on. I remember one of my favorite high school English teachers WAS one of my favorites because of all of different activities he employed and the fact he had high standards--an A was a coveted grade. I spoke to him after he retired, with about 30 years of teaching under his belt. He said the last few years it had gotten so he read much of the material to the class...it was basically impossible to do the discussions, the role plays, the debates, the projects, when so few students read the assignments. I'm sure his students the last few years thought he was boring...but they had brought it on themselves by not reading the homework. (I'm sure social promotion had something to do with this as well, as many of the students were probably incapable of reading and understanding the assignments.)

Many students don't read it or....don't retain what they have read so maybe that is the way your teacher is dealing with that...but I doubt it. It is possible that they are uncomfortable with the curriculum and therefore they are hiding behind the book. Or they are old and waiting for retirement. Either way, it sucksand I am very sorry that you are having a negative experience.

Depends on how strong the teachers' brains are. Brains does not mean intelligence alone (it comprises of many things). It is her fault that makes the subject boring. If she was more intuitive, she would've made the class fun and sparked students' interest in the subject.

Probably your teacher does this for the same reason I read the book to the class:

a) my students don't do the homework and we can't discuss the material unless they've read it;

b) my students don't understand the material even if they have read it.

I don't read everything to them...just the stuff they have to know for the test, so they can't say I never covered it.

the teacher probably is aware of the fact that 25% or more of her students do not read well or even are able to read english, I would suggest that you speak with you school counselors about taking more advanced learning classes to keep ahead of slow moving teachers and slow learners. a lot of the time you can find classes that are more suitable to your own particular learning abilities, if there are none available, maybe its time to find private schooling or tutoring

Not ALL of them are boring. Just the bad ones. I had an awsome science teacher. It was one of my favorite classes. Maybe you can change to a different class if it is not past the drop date.....
