I just don't get it, they are both mind altering drugs, and alcohol causes so many accidents.. So why is it ilegal? and isn't someone's personal right to smoke what they choose?

They already tried to make alcohol illegal, it didn't work, that's how all that Mafia stuff happend. But as you can see with all the new smoking laws in Canada, slowly they are making it illegal. I agree with you about rights, but if you decide to live in a certain country, you must respect the laws they have, even if they take over your personal choice. But if you say that is taking away your personal rights, then why is it illegal to be a prostitute, isn't that someones right?

They have a higher profit margin now with things the way they are. With alcohol they get their money from fines and taxes. With nicotine they get it from taxes. Most people can't grow or make their own booze and smokes. But with pot , they get their money from international seizures of cartels bank accounts and assets, the same here in the states, plus fines levied on the people they bust for possession. If it was legal, most people would just buy it and go home. Then again they would never cut their grass or get around to fixing their broken fence either.

Marijuana is a hallucinate. You can't really get a fix off of alcohol and nicotine like you can weed.

You answered your own question. Alcohol isn't under near good enough control to introduce another drug. Get alcohol under control, then it will be considered. With how many people that die as a result of alcohol it would be multiplied if those people were on two drugs instead of one. Keep it illegal. People who want to use it will no matter what but at least they will be careful with it as long as it is illegal.

Alcohol is perceived as a social drug to legislators. You can go to a bar or lounge and have a social drink and not get drunk. Bud has a sole purpose and that is to get stoned you can't go to a lounge in Amsterdam and have a casual doobie and not leave F%$ked up. What they fail to realize is that alcohol and nicotine has way worse effects when consumed in large amounts.

Common sense doesn't make policy in America, Money does. That is the short answer. If you want details " The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by Jack Herer is the perfect book for you to read. It details the timeline, reasoning etc. of cannabis prohibition with proper documentation (most of it furnished by the govt.) Honestly, the reading isn't nearly as dry as it sounds : )

Mostly it's because of racism. Try reading Smoke and Mirrors written by Dan Baum for a better understanding drugs and their history in the U.S.

I agree, it doesn't make sense, but the government is all about money. They can easily tax all they want on cigarettes. But like someone else said, they cant regulate tax on something that anyone can grow themselves. They know it's bad, and they know the risks of second hand smoke, but all they see are $$

I think that people need to stop asking this stupid question. Its not racist or any of the other excuses people like to make. People smoke whether or not its legal, so who cares? It is illegal, so unless you are going to fight it, get over it. I'm not saying you are wrong or right, it is what it is
