What's the difference between an icon and a legend (in the music and entertainment world) is one better?

Here's what I think:
Someone becomes a legend after many years for doing something significant during their career. For example: Elvis is a legend.
Someone can be considered an icon in anything and at any particular time with the possibility of losing the title eventually. For example: Gwen Stefani is a fashion icon.

To me, an icon is a person that makes a major change, for instance inventing the Blues, or inventing the electric guitar. A legend has mastered something, like the blues or the electric guitar.
