I've been within 15 ft. of one. It looked like 3 twined together- I was so stunned that I didn't even have time to be scared.

The closest I have been to a lighting bolt would be about 15 feet. One nite it struck a tree right outside my home in the side yard.

A couple weeks ago it struck down in the back yard and came in on the telephone line and fried my puter. I learned my lesson. I went out and bought new puter and a UPS for my computers safty. It will also save money in the long run from the next strike.

Heck, just night before last it struck my neighbors house and blew up thier new TV.

I do live in a lighting zone.

I was in a little town in Georgia called Florence at a timeshare resort on the basketball court (outdoor) when a thunderstorm suddenly came up. Wicked lightening criss cross the sky. So we quit and started running back to the room. The path ran for a bout 25 yards thru a wooded area. Just as I passed thru the woods lightening struck a big oak tree and splintered it. I was running like a bat outta hell. My heart was racing when I got to the room my legs were like jelly. I still have a piece of bark from that old oak tree.

About 30 feet. I was standing on my front porch watching a storm and lightning struck the power pole at the corner of my lot. I don't want that to happen ever again!
