Was the dog there when you were attacked ? If he was then it would be unusual for him to just watch ! Dogs usually know when someone is up to no good and will behave completely different to when friends call.. My dog was how you describe yours but if anybody had been silly enough to put a leg over the window sill he would have amputated it for them ! Cheers Pete.

I understand you are scared but trying to train your dog to be aggressive is a bad idea. People spend time and money trying to keep their dogs from being aggressive! Having an aggressive dog is a liability and can affect your home owners insurance as well. Teaching a dog to "guard" the house can be dangerous because dogs don't know the difference between a bad stranger like a trespasser in the yard and a good stranger like your friend from work who comes over from dinner. Get an alarm system and enjoy your friendly dog who I bet is great with your kids!

now, i don't know about your dog personally, but i know that people underestimate their dogs, you say that your dog would lick the intruder to death (which he might) but it is more likely that he would get extremely protective if he feels taht you or your children are in danger. That is a trait that usually comes natrually to a dog that loves its family, (even some that don't) that's just what dogs do.

Sounds like a love and I am sorry to say that is the breed. However, I think that any dog that sensed intrusion may show you something different, even if he is a lab.

it's almost impossible to do that, labs and goldens are 1 of the sweetest dogs EVER it was bred into them to be nice dogs and it would take years to train him, i recommend getting a german shepherd, they're good with other dogs, and they're extremley protective towards mean people, but i don't know how bad they would hurt someone if they tried to hurt you.

labs are for retrievine not guarding so it will likely be dificult to train him if it didn't automatically come naturally
