You will need college to help you overcome having a felony. My boyfriend has one w/o college and he has a hard time in life because of this problem. Can you get it expunged, look into it! Contact the judge who gave it to you maybe he has some suggestions as to what you can do. Attend all job fairs and get to know the HR people. Ask questions to w/ potential employer so the guess work of getting turned down for employment can be given up front , it also give people a chance to know your personality and that your mistakes are not who you are today. Try your local Urban league they have staff members who specialized in helping ex cons land professional employment. Contact your local employment security offices with such a problem, how about the career center at the college you attend. All hope should not be lost at this point your still young and your bettering your chances with a degree, make sure you get decent grades, graduate and stay out of trouble and improve your character. Good luck !

Everyone make mistakes and I am sure you will find a job with a college degree. Just don't major in law enforcement because a felony will automatically disqualify you. I am not sure but isn't true that your criminal record gets clear after a certain number of years(7 or 8yrs) if you dont commit any other crime within that time period. By the way if I were I just ignore mentioning that you have committed a felony. If they don't do a background check then you should be able to get the job that you. The best solution is to speak with an attorney about ur situation and maybe they can direct you into the right direction. I am sure there are some loop holes and with a college degree hardly anyone would suspect that you have committed a felony.

My advice is STOP ASKING THIS QUESTION. If you CAN'T do that, see a psycologist as the inability to let go of a single thought can be a sign of several serious but treatable mental illnesses.
Like I've said every time I've answered this question, stay in school. The jobs for which you need a college education are far more inclined to overlook a felony if you're good at what you do than those that do not. If you stay in college, and you work hard, you're past will cause very few problems for you in terms of starting a career. If you have a skill that they need, they'll hire you regardless of your past. You just have to be better at what you do than all those other guys who don't have a felony on their record. If, on the other hand, you drop out, you're just one more drop-out with a dirty past. It's not hard to find someone else who can do whatever it is you want to do just as well who doesn't have a criminal record. People respect people who overcome their past. So stop asking this freaking question and just stay in school.
PS. Watch the TV show House (on FOX) - one of the doctors on there had a felony conviction before college.

I know a person that spent a lot of time in prison for drugs. He finally straightened up and cleaned himself up. He went back to school and got a degree in counseling. He works at a drug rehab center.
Find a degree that will enhance what you have gone through, and your employment will be guaranteed. A lot of gem thiefs work for private security places. They are the best people to watch the gems because they know what to look for in other thieves.

In California you can go see the "one-stop" shops at the state unemployment offices. They will tell you about options for your situation.
