personally, i like the rougher-edge, kick-you-in-your-mouth rock.
Anything by System of a Down is good - especially Mezmerize and Hypnotize. For the anti-establishment nut in all of us, Toxicity and BYOB are great songs as well.
Marilyn Manson's cover of "Sweet Dreams" is awesome, as is Korn's cover of Pink Floyd's "Another brick in the wall."
Evanescence at one time was a decent band - now it's just whiny teenage rock. Stay away from Amy Lee and the boys.

It depends what kind of rock you like. If you like classic, I would go with the Queen song Hammer to Fall. If you like pop rock, I would listen to Helicopter by Bloc Party. If you like hard rock, I would listen to the Audioslave song Cochise. Rock is kind of a general music term.
