Why does the fashion industry place these models on magazine covers and fashion shows? Most of the people I know find these women repulsive. Who the heck worships rail thin women? They look sick and the clothes they wear do not look flattering on their 12-year-old-boy-looking bodies. Just what exactly is beautiful about them, because I don't see it and I don't think the average american sees it either.

I have no idea how my question ended up in the UK&Ireland YAnswers. Lol. Oh well.

yes, my little eight year old sister pointed out to me that the lady (linsay lohan) on the magazines looks nasty. Lol. Nice to now that she doesn't idolize that kind of "thinspiration".

I'm not "hating" chunkydunk, I just don't think its a wise thing to do. Starve yourself and risk getting some health complications later in life all for the money? Nah. I'm fine weighing 123 at 5'1. I don't need to be 95 pounds for others to find more attractive. I'm pretty sure they like me the way I am. A healthy 123 pounds. ;-)

what i find really disturbing is that certain models and people in the fashion industry are fighting to keep underweight models as the norm. it seems that what's presented to the public to view as beautiful (models, actresses etc) just keeps getting thinner and thinner. (have you seen kate bosworth lately?) i want to know when it's going to stop. when enough people die? i also agree that it just looks sick. i thought that nature programmed people to view, instinctively, attractive qualities in another human being as being signs of good health. meaning, if someone is more fit to reproduce, based on health, this would appeal to one's sexual attraction. that being the case, where does this anorexic appearance (since anorexia leads to a person's body not being capable of reproducing) fit into attraction?

I DO!
I think they look great, they DO look good in the clothes they are PAID to wear.
How many people would wear things straight off the catwalk?? Not many...and even if they did they wouldn't look as good because they're not made for the average womans size..
High end fashion is not the same as whats on the high street so I don't see what the big deal is....
They're supposed to be showing off the clothes and I think they do just that - essentially they are walking hangers!!! No curves mean they can do this better.

And BTW not all of them are ill, im sure some of you know tall/thin women that dont stop themselves eating for force themselves to throw up either.

The whole point is to find something that isn't natural. Something that isn't ordinary. The media makes millions off of showing people what "sexy" is having normal people buy into it. Look at magazines first page is a diet pill, the second is cake, the third is a weight loss supplement, the fourth is food..get it...they make money by screwing with our heads. No person could be that thin without a lot of work and they know that..so inevitably they make money off our attempts to be what they consider sexy or gorgeous...

It's a myth that men like thin women. Most of them prefer women with a bit of flesh, not a bag of bones. I think models shouldn't look anorexic. They look as if they are very ill or malnourished and make people think they are drug addicts.

Oh Yeah!
I love skin & bones, especially when they throw up on me.

It is said the camera adds pounds, so the super skinny girls look more normal in photos.
If you have seen HDTV, things are more realistic, so the super skinny ones won't look good anymore. Maybe that will correct the problem.

THANK YOU! some normal people, all my friends are like it is not their fault they're thin! but it is, they have thrown up EVERYTHING they have ever eaten.
also, the designers have to make their olthes in bigger sizes for normal dudes to wear, so why not have normal people wearing them, it is so RANK to see all those nasty bones and stuff, it's just like, bones are meant to be UNDER your skin not all poking out, like that, go get HELP!
Jeez, sorry, I just needed that rant!

Idiots? its disgusting, they look ill. I prefer women that look healthy, meaning they aren't clinically obese and don't use the other end of their toothbrush to force themselves to vomit. I think it starts off with the general feeling of being a little overweight, and just gets worse and worse with the person still thinking they are overweight.

they arent beautiful it is just that the fashion designers think the clothes fit them better! how sad is that...but not all fashions do it, mosdels now have to have a BMI of over 18 and one catwalk was sizes 16 +!

The reason designers prefer to dress rail thin models is because it's less fabric, and less curves they have to deal with. Making their job easier.

thats just sick and wrong. those girls need some serious help. Being a woman is about having curves and feeling your best, not looking like a twig thats going to snap in half..
