A word or group of words that reads the same backwards if you ignore the spaces in between the words:

"Madam, I'm Adam." Adam introducing himself to Eve (notice that the apostrophe is in a different place in the backwards version)

"Able was I ere I saw Elba." Napoleon, claiming that his capture and temporary confinement in the island of Elba prevented him from being successful after he escaped. (ERE means before)

"A man, a plan, a canal--Panama."

A palindrome is a word, phrase, number or other sequence of units (such as a strand of DNA) that has the property of reading the same in either direction (the adjustment of punctuation and spaces between words is generally permitted). The word "palindrome" was coined from Greek roots Greek πάλιν (palin) "back" and δρóμος (dromos) "way, direction" by English writer Ben Jonson in the 1600s. Composing literature in palindromes is an example of constrained writing.

words like: eve, wow, mom, racecar
numbers like: 535, 3773
phrases: Madam, I'm Adam. Do geese see God? Was it Eliots toilet I saw? Murder for a jar of red rum.

IT can also be in numbers too such as 101, 202, 212... anything that is read the same backwards as forwards.if you need to find the next higher number, for example take 101 and add a 1 to the middle, making it 111, which is the next palendrome number after 101. but it its somthing like 191, you add 1 to the middle, making it zero, then change the outer numbers to 1 above, making the number 202
