My husband found out through donating blood that he has the hepatitis C virus. Although I never got a notice from the Red Cross, I decided to go out and get the test, at my own expense. Like a dumbass I mentioned this at my friend's house - who's a nurse practitioner. Obviously I felt more comfortable asking her about it than my physician father and uncle.... Well yesterday I visited with another friend (in the same group of friends) who has also just had a baby 2 months ago. She never let me kiss the baby etc. before she was a month old -- so I figured enough time had passed... and I am done with the cold I had earlier... so I asked her, innocently enough, if I could kiss the baby's cheeks. She said no - and that she 'had to talk to me about something.' She proceeded to tell my nurse practitioner friend told her that my husband has hepatitis C etc. I acted like it didn't bug me but of course when I was getting in my car afterwards, I was so PISSED! And -- I don't even have the virus!

We've all been friends since undergrad etc. and are now 30 years old. I can't believe she would say that **** to me! I called her from my car and told her that I was pissed that, here I was, confiding in my friends and seeking their knowledge (re: the hepatitis c) and then they just use it against me and ****! My friend's like 'well I don't let anyone kiss her...' -- and I'm like 'well that's fine -- but why did you have to say that **** about my husband having hepatitis c? like that's some f'ing **** I have control over or something?!!!!!!!!! And she's said quietly 'I'm sorry I hurt your feelings.' But I don't feel like that's enough! I just want to call her and tell her what I really think etc., how I think her baby's not that cute anyway, etc. etc. but of course I can't.... I just wish I could though... to her AND the nurse practitioner friend.... I feel like I want a much more copious apology at least!

First report the nurse practitioner for violating patient confidentiality. This person should loose their license for doing that. Don't let this drop. They could be doing this to a lot of people and this is potentially defaming and very damaging to them. It has a lot of ramifications to the general public and to the person who has the virus as well as the person being tested.

um did you know the only way you can get hepatitis c is if your an intervenes drug user or have had sex with someone with the hepatitis. I found that out after my ex husband also contracted hepatitis c our family doctor told me without my husband in the room when i was getting tested. luckily i never got it either

I would tell them both that my test came back negative, and that it hurt me, because I thought as a professional, and friend I could confide in you. And to the baby's mom, say I would not do anything to hurt your baby, and I am sorry that you feel this way about me. And leave it at that. Tell them to take care!

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard-
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke no word!
I didn't ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn't mind)-
I asked Him to send you treasures
Of a far more lasting kind!
I asked that He'd be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And my friendship to share your way!
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small-
But it was for His loving care
I prayed the most of all!

Didn't she just violate her oath? Aren't you still considered a patient? I wouldn't call her a friend.
