I don't know if moth balls used to be used in the drawers or what, I have tried airing them out, I have had this set for most of my life, and it has always driven me crazy, smells like dirty shirts and pants, even if I just washed them. PLEASE HELP.

Clean the inside of the drawers out, sprinkle baking soda in them let sit over night(with all the drawers on the living room floor, out of the chest. Then wipe out and shake out, line drawers with drawer liner, and then use bars of good smelling soap or CEDAR balls or blocks. Good LUCK!!

It is the wood itself that was used, try dryer sheets or concentrate air freshener, take out the clothes and give the drawers a good spray, open, the when you put your clothes back, place a dryer sheet at the bottom of the drawer.

I had a set as a child from my fahters home, the secondary wood was white pine, it along with some others will over time develope a musty or dirty smell due to the way the wood was handled when the suite was constructed, if it was cedar or oak you would not have this problem, if that does not work, consider and it may sound strange kitchen shelf liners and another dose of the air freshener, try lavander or some other nice floral scent, one you can tolerate.

Try a disinfectant spray such as Lysol. spray and let air dry. Then in each drawer put a scented waste paper bag (plastic) . wal mart has them and grocery stores.. put the clothes on top and close the drawers . open up at least an hour later and smell the difference. Also after all the drawers are out spray inside of the furniture the clothes go in..

Sand the inside of the drawers with very fine sandpaper then vacuum the residue out. After you do this, place a sheet of fabric softener inside each drawer and change it when the scent leaves.
