OK...just to claifiy, to be a "Paint horse", they can only be of Quarter horse or Thoroughbred breeding. Anything else, as stated before, is a Pinto. I have had a breeding stock paint mare, she was from a Quarter type Paint sire, and palomino QH mare. I love the Paints for the patterns and colors, but I really love all horses.

I prefer Paint Horses to Quarter horses. Paints and Quarter Horses are the same, but Paints are so much prettier!

actually paint horses ARE quarter horses! just quarter horses with spots. they share bloodlines and everything just some have color in their background also. pintos on the other hand can be any breed or mixture of breeds and don't even need to know the lineage of the mare or sire-its a color only breed. a quarter horse with the slightest amount of color anywhere but the legs or head is a registerable breeding stock paint. i had a breeding stock paint that had only a blaze, 2 white socks and a tiny splash of white on his belly.

Why not a paint quarter horse? Then you get the best of both.

personally i'd choose a palomino quarter horse. you can also get the quarter horses with a paint coloring though. so you can have both a paint and quarter horse within the same horse. lol

Ok,you can have a paint horse and a Quarter horse, but u cant have a paint that is registered QH, and vice versa.
Paints are nice, and yes, none are ever the same, but QH are really nice too, they come in a wide range of coat coloures chestnut/sorrel, Palomino, Grey, Bay, Black.
You can do heaps with both breeds. And i would say QH are more cow savvy, but i have known paints to like a cow or 2.
Ride each one, if your going to buy one, keep your eyes and mind open to different colours, appaloosa are QH but have spots, and cant be registered as QH. look around and try each one that you like, each horse is different and you may like the paint colour but teh QH may be gentle and more relaxed.
I prefer the QH, as i breed Appy and QH, but paint are nice too
Hope yu can decide
Have fun
