About how many of Babe Ruth's home runs would be called a ground rule double? Prior to the 1930 season a ball that bounced into the seats was considered a homerun.

EXCELLENT point (if it is indeed true.)

Another to consider is how many Home Runs Babe Ruth lost due to there being NO foul poles. He was the reason they were added to the playing field.

I have heard estimates that he may have lost 50 HRs due to the fact that umpires could not correctly call a ball fair or foul.

Interesting ques., kid. Ruth was known for high, long homers, so the probability of a ground rule double for his style would be small. Line drives just weren't his thing. How many? Who knows? --R Now go to women Studies q. 3 non-negotable, m's &my ans. you'll feel better.

No, I never wondered that. I didn't know there was a time when there was no ground rule double. I thought it was always a rule.

really a good idea to state what your subject is ABOUT in the subject line so people don't open for nothing if not interested in the subject matter when it's in the 'general' listings. Just common courtesy for those who scan for what they'd be interested in.

No I never even thought about it. The way they tell it his homers were always clean, high & far.
