If you are in labor, the muscles in your stomach will contract, have her lie down and see if her stomach rises when she experiences the pain. (pain is not always in the stomach)

Clock the pains to determine how many minutes apart they are, if the contractions remain constant and timing doesn't change, then you are in labor.

However, if changing positions stops them or timing of pains changes from 5 minutes to 10 or 20 to 4 and back to 20 again, it is false labour Braxton Hicks,

The body prepares itself throughout the 3rd trimester for the actual event, it's like stretching before exercising, your body knows what it needs to do.

Sometimes dehydration will cause labor to start, it's too early for her to have the baby at 33 weeks. Give her a half of glass of water if she doesn't remember the last time she's had a beverage. If she is in labor, you wont want to give more than a half a glass. If the contractions stop after having this water, then keep fluids in by remembering to drink.

If the pain is not bearable, headaches are present, bleeding or discharge, then call your doctor, if you can not reach your doctor head to the hospital.

i had intense back labor w/ my 1st pregnancy. you'll feel a lot of lower back pain, that can unfortunately, mask the contractions for quite some time. Also, you can have a lot of discomfort, nausea and some menstral type cramping. Many women also get very restless, cant sleep, cant get comfortable and find a need to pace or move around a lot. If she is having the back pains though, i would go into Labor and Delivery for monitoring to make sure that she isn't dialating or going into labor. At 33weeks its still a little too early for baby, and if she's contracting they may want to give her some medication to stop the contractions and some lung developing steroids for the baby in case he/she shows up a little early

ON TOP OF THAT!!! You may not necessarily know when you are in labor. I had no idea!!! My docs didn't think I was either, and when I went into the L&D Ward I was only 23weeks pregnant and 4cm dialated!!!

Point one million: Every occasion has to uncover volunteers to face as applicants. Not sufficient volunteers - now not sufficient applicants. Point two: Standing in a hopeless ward, even though fascinating for the entire country wide events, isn't constantly functional, and, of path, expenses cash. Standing manner placing up a deposit, and publishing election fabric. Point three: In 2007 I do not feel any occasion is fielding applicants in additional than 60% of the entire council seats up for election. There is a ward close me that is most likely solidly Tory. A few years in the past the Tories could not uncover a candidate. Nor might another occasion besides Labour. So he gained the seat by way of default. The man used to be a conventional historical staunch socialist and it used to be rather ironic that he spend four years representing a top Tory rural ward. The Tories made certain they post a candidate four years later. P.S. If you are going to cite Shakespeare you must a minimum of comprehend it. "Wherefore" honestly manner "why are you", now not "wherein are you". Juliet used to be asking why Romeo needed to be from a loved ones with whom hers had a feud.

Believe me you'll know! Aside from that your water may break, you will have UNBELIEVABLE pain and basically you'll want to die. However, the hospital is used to seeing women come in with false labor so to be on the safe side call the doctor or go in to the hospital to be 100% sure. (Better safe than sorry) Good Luck and congrats!

Tell her to go to the hospital, because I was going through the same thing but a week later I went in to labor at about 34-35weeks and my daughter was 3lbs 6 ounces and it scared me but she didn't have any respitorial problems and she came home when she hit 4lbs and 1 ounce.Get it checked out before it's too late cuz sometimes they give you things to ease the pain.Good Luck and take be safe and you and your in-law don't let this get yall scared.

Go to the hospital. Doesn't sound like she's in labor but she could have the back pain checked out. What if it is a sign of something else? better safe than sorry.

As this is obviously her first child, you should have plenty of time to know for sure before heading to the hospital. At 33 weeks she is very early. Her back hurting could be just from the discomfort of pregnancy. If it is labor, there will be NO DOUBT about it when she goes into second stage. Don't worry. she will know.

you will KNOW if you're in labour... trust me. HOWEVER...

HAving said that, it might be best for her to put a call in to her doctor. Back ache can be a number of things INCLUDING labour. If there are contractions, time them.

If there is spotting, or if her water has broken... another sign. (water doesn't need to be broken for labour to start though)

Was she lifting anything? Does relaxing settle the pain? Might be best to talk to doctor JUST IN CASE!!! (would be best to bc you would want to err on the side of caution wouldn't you?

All the best to you and you're sister in law!!

GOOD LUCK!!! (& congratulations!)

Contractions usually become stonger with less intervals as time progresses. Have her keep timing them and contact her Dr with the results. I was told by my Dr. to take a warm (not hot) shower and if the contractions increase noticeable afterward then it's labor. I never heard of it before, but it worked.

the hospital wants women to come in when their pains are 5mins or less or their water breaks one sign is feeling like your going to wet your pants from the pressure of the baby, another the feeling that you have to push don't until your in the hospital good luck;tell her not to holler it causes the baby to go back up and her labor will only be longer
