I know people say communism can only work in theory, but, true communism has never had a chance in a non-peace envirnoment. I truly believe had lenin not died prematurely we would've seen the true communism...does anyone agree that communism may work if there is no threat of war and you have someone who is willing to step down as a 'leader' when its up and running?

True Communism cannot work because of human nature. True Communism has been tried again and again. The system has been set up to establish the prescribed top-level management of resources and lives of its subjects. The problem is, it requires handing absolute power to a small ruling elite to 'manage' what everyone else produces. Is it possible to have a human society where that absolute power does not attract the absolutely corrupt? Or where mid-level bureaucrats serve the needs of the people selflessly rather than strive for more power and personal gain?

According to the American system, Human Nature must be restrained so that no man may take from another what belongs to another. That is the most elemental lesson we learn from history, those with the power to take from others become self serving.

The closest true Communism can come to working is with a very small group of people that requires no administrators whatsoever, where sharing is a simple and natural thing to do.

A Communist society imposes harsh oppression on its own people in peace time. Look at North Korea (not at war), China (not at war), Cuba (not at war)... it establishes an overwhelming, controlling bureaucracy to crush the concept of individualism.

The problem with communism is quite simple - we as a species aren't that altruistic. Am I going to work harder so that you can just play/relax? Pure capitalism won't work either we are too lazy. Most utilities are monopolies. The amount of effort required to be sufficient is more than most of us are willing to invest.

In the animal community communism hasn't shown any place communism working any better!
