Remote Desktop is best - IF you have XP Pro - XP Home doesn't have the ability.
Otherwise, choose a VNC variant:

A desk top computer can't move around like a laptop. However say you have a computer at work and a computer at home and you want to access your work computer from home, you need to install logme in.

just get a keyboard, mouse and monitor extension cable. other solutions won't work as well, and will cost more
