What is it? Why was it constructed? For who was it constructed? How did it work?

It was built by the Romans in the first century AD to bring water into the city. Works basically by gravity, it slopes slightly downwards from the lower slopes of the Sierra de Guadarrama to the walls of the old town. It is an amazing structure, one of the greatest surviving examples o f Roman Engineering. It is 115ft high at its highest point and 2,952 feet long , made of massive granite blocks and is held together without mortar or clamps.
