Depends on if this is your first baby and where the palcement of the baby is. I was in labor 22 and 1/2 hours after my water broke. All good things in due time is the way it goes. You can also dilate and be that way for days. sorry to be the barer of such news but having babies is not an easy job.
You may have a quick labor or you may have a marathon labor, delivery is is in Gods hands so if your water is broke you need to call your doctor.

dialation means nothing. A woman can dialate to 2 cm and carry for 2 sometimes 3 months. I personally am 1cm dialated, and have been so since week 16 of my pregnancy. I'm now 29 weeks pregnant and still 1cm dialated. Your body can dialate and never go into labor, some women can dialate to a point when they are due and end up having c-sections or other intervention methods because their labor was not progressing. So Dialation isn't always the best thing to go off of .

I was dilated 1cm for 3 days before I actually started labour. From the time my contractions started to delivery it was 8 1/2 hrs, which I guess isnt that bad for a first delivery. The average is 10 to 12 hrs according to my baby book.

It's different for everybody. Some people dilate hours before their delivery, or even days. Others aren't dilated until they've had contractions for awhile, and then they dilate rapidly. That's what happened to me, the nurses thought I'd never be ready to deliver, but then I progressed so rapidly my daughter was born before they could even call my Dr.

Depends on how fast you're dilating!! It could be a couple of hours, a couple of days, or even a couple of weeks!! After you get past 3 cm, you'll be getting ready to have the baby in a couple of days!! Sometimes, if you're taking to long to dilate, your doctor may either break your water or induce your labor!!!

Good Luck!!
