We moved to a rural area and there has been a few mice in here.. We were told it is part of living out here. Our apt. is very clean and new. WE ARE MORTIFIED AT THE THOUGHT OF THIS. Do you know anything about this?? Also they are usually in shock from the cat, they just sit there when we put them out, is that safe or should we put them in the woods?

Mice in rural areas do try to move in to enclosed environments when the crops are being cut or it gets cold. However, I've lived in lots of rural areas with no mice. The cat may or may not take care of them. If you choose to live with them they will breed. You will find little mice pellets in drawers and they will build nests in your clothes. They also tend to be smelly. I personally don't like living in close quarters with mice. There are no really humane ways to get rid of them. Mouse traps and poison will work. If you don't like killing things you can try live traps and release them but they may just come back in the house. Look for and plug up any mouse holes. Good luck.

If you live in a rural area it is normal for mice to migrate indoors from the fields in autumn in order to seek warmth. However obviously you have to get rid of them. For every mouse that you see, there are dozens living in your home. They sell humane traps now but when you catch a mouse, don't just put it outside, transport it far away from your house.

Personally I wouldn't want mice in my living space, they carry diseases and excrete and urinate everywhere they go. It will be difficult to get rid of them entirely as they are coming in from surroung fields. But an exterminator can help point out points of entry that you can plug up. They can put traps and poisons out that will not harm your pets if they should eat one that's eaten the poison. I've heard about these sound devices that are supposed to emit sounds that are painful to mice and other pests but don't affect pets. If they work that may be a more humane option to keep them out of your apartment.

It is not 'normal' to have mice running around your place of living.
You need to talk to the apt manager about setting traps, and closing up openings in the building where rodents and other animals can enter.
Remember, rodents carry diseases! Don't accept 'it's normal' as an answer.

YOU NEED TO PUT OUT RAT AND MICE POSION AND KEEP IT FOR A WHILE THAT WILL GET RID OF THEM. BETTER PUT THE CAT UP SO IT DOES NOT EAT THE POSION OR IT MAY KILL IT ALSO.
