It would depend on your definition of society. I think you may be more correct in asking if your culture values humility, or the culture of the society you live in. Being that I do not know any thing about you or your location I can not say. I do know that in many western cultures humility is valued as a virtue. Based Christian values which put these at the forefront of its cultural norms. In terms of western capitalism, I would say no humility is not valued. You only promote your self by being outward and
.

Now in eastern culture where you see Confucianism. It most definitely is valued. It is the way of life, trying to fit in and not rock the boat too much. Perhaps being one of the main reasons Society's in that area do not tend to favor democracy.

well what society (in the US) often wants is STRONG people who can DEFEND what they stand for and go out and have ENERGY and INDEPENDANCE... which is really annoying because it gives people that don't think hard enough about what they believe in the motive to insult people that don't believe in it anyways. So even though it's possible to get that message that it's bad, I think everyone who isn't like that aprreciates humility :)

Absolutely not...this is a world full of dishonest, proud, unvirtuous people..but keeping humble always works out in the end...saves you a TON of embarrasment and heartache. I chose my current BF because he was the most humblest, meekest man I had met...no, he's no model-looking hunk, but after being with a pompous @*^ for too long, this was a refreshing change...instead of someone fighting me to look at hte mirror, i now have a man who we fight over trying to give each other the mirror...so to speak
