It will only hurt things if you try to turn her from being racist. Her days are almost over and so you should just spend quality time with her without arguing. I would let her know that you have opposite feelings than she does, and I bet secretly she will respect you for that. After you tell her that, leave it alone and let it be.

I don't personally have a relative like that, but my best friend's dad is racist and for awhile I couldn't talk about my boyfriend at her house since he was black and her dad would be upset to find out that she knew any of my black friends. it's pretty cruddy but you just gotta deal with it, the world keeps spinning.

You just have to realise when she was growing up life and opinions were different. After all this time she won't change her opinions. Just bear with her. Who knows, perhaps in a few decades this forum will be getting a question from one of your descendents asking a similar question about you..

yes my father-in-law. He's also well into hes 80's. We gave up trying to change him, now we just tune him out. It is very hard to be around him most of the time.

Yes some older people in my family are also like that it makes my stomach turn .

Her opinions are her problem; they don't have to be your problem. You needn't agree with her, nor even pretend to agree; all you need to do is be nice to her. She's still your grandmother, after all.
