i have a agp x4 card in my pc( a ge-force 4 mmx 128mb) and obviously i am going to upgrade it as i have vista on that system dual booted with xp
i have checked the motherboard specs and it states it can only take max x4 agp
can i use a x8 agp card on a system with a max x4 compatability but then i will only get x4 agp power
in other words will a x8 agp card just revert to x4 when put in a machine with x4 specs

Yes, I have tried that . I was having the same specs as yours..was using the same graphics card for Vista only. but was not getting Aero.

Hence, I tried a new card in the same AGP 4x slot. It worked for me.
