You can install the drive as a second drive and keep your existing hard drive. This way you gain the capacity of the new drive but use the existing drive as your boot drive (Windows) drive.

Install the new drive as a secondary or "slave" drive. Keep your old drive as the "Primary" drive. Using your files and data on the Secondary drive prevents you from losing data if your primary drive fails. Instructions for formatting and installing the drive should be included with the hard drive. Or you can call the company where you purchased the Hard drive. They normally have tech support to answer your questions. Good luck.

Install your new 250gb drive as a slave drive. There may be some settings that you'll need to change in your bios. But it is possible. Most hard drive manufacturers give you instructions on how to do it.

If you install it in a RAID then you can use both drives.
Just follow the instructions on setting it as a slave drive.
If you are using it alone, then yes you will need to reinstall everything.

Yes unless you made a ghost image of your old drive then you just install that on the new one and your all set.
