That they are aging each and every day ? It amazes me how young people today seem to feel that there is something awful
about getting older ! I was taught to respect my elders , and I have all my life .

By the way kids life will fly by you just as quickly as it did for my generation { the baby boomers } . It seems like only
yesterday that I was out there trying to see what I could get into.
Fun was all that mattered most times , so be warned you should
always be kind to the ones who are old because unless you die real soon ... you will be older like us before you know it . Then how will others treat you !
WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND !!!
I do realize not all young people feel this way so don't be mad if you are polite and kind !

I agree with what you wrote. I am young (24) and I know I'll be old too one day. That's not the only reason why I treat elders well though. I just try to treat everyone well unless they "undeserve" that by being total assholes. I think people should be kind to each other and not only on the basis of age, although of course some old people do need extra consideration with some things.

I must mention one thing though. A lot of elders don't respect young people. With the way I see some elders behave towards young people daily, I'm not surprised they don't get much respect from the youth. It's a two way road you see, respect should go both ways. Times have changed too. Before, people were taught to respect the elders no matter what. Today young people feel like respect is not about one's age, but about what you deserve. You must earn respect, and when people are disrespectful to others they'll get the same in return, no matter what their age.

Maybe there's a bit of a clash with this right now, the elders thinking they should be respected because they were taught to respect the elders no matter what, and the young thinking the elders should be respectful if they want respect themselves.

My experience is that people who are kind will get kindness in return and that when someone is being disrespected, there's usually a reason for that.

That's the youngsters' side of the story.

It seems like you answered your own question. Yes, young people do realize they are aging each and every day. That's why they panic - it's the awfulness of growing older. I know a man who broke down and cried at the office on his 30th birthday - his life was OVER!!!

That's why teenage girls wear makeup like hoes and carry spangly street-walker shoulder-bags - they think at age 16 they are already old maids and they are advertising for someone to pick their flowers. Now, why their mothers let them do this, I have no freaking idea.
