I have purchased a Sony VGN AR11m but when it comes to battery life i have a issue. Its only been on 51 minutes after a full charge and only have 26% left. Also when you run a laptop on a charger does it run up a lot of electricity, more than a pc. Is it cost efficent to just keep a laptop on a power supply when using it. Please Help

do you play games or other high-end programs? do you leave the screen brightness all the way up?do you run a CD while on it? do you have a plug in mouse? speakers? all these drain energy faster...

you might want to leave it plugged in when if you are doing these, and no, it shouldnt take as much energy as a PC casue the monitor is built right in, and stuff like that

Different models of laptops vary in terms of their battery life- some are very energy efficient and might last 4 hours on a full charge, others only 90 minutes. Larger screens usually require more power, so laptops with a 15" screen usually have shorter battery life than those with a 13" screen. And of course, using devices like DVD/CD burners etc will exhaust the battery faster. It's all part of what computer reviewers look at in assessing overall value.

I'm not sure about the VGN AR11m, but my IBM Thinkpad battery only lasts for a little over an hour. But since it's a 4 year old machine we're talking about, that's not unusual.

I tend to keep laptops plugged into AC power whenever it's available. And after awhile, all batteries need to be replaced- whether they are laptop batteries or UPS batteries.

Have you changed the settings on the power consumption setup yet? How old is the battery? A battery over a year or so old should probably be changed. Batteries can only be charged so many times before they won't take a charge anymore. And they can develop a memory effect from charging and discharging. Fully discharge your battery then fully charge it then totally discharge it again and then charge it again and see if that helps.

hi Andrew....basically all laptop batteries are very poor, i have never had one that lasts over an hour.I cant see them using much power at all as the power input converts to low voltage.
