Never mind their pioneering spirit. By electing George W. Bush, they totally lost their minds! - their pioneering spirit was always going to be a casualty after that.

Decades ago.
It shows up in the gov't we will accept, the comforts we demand, the profligate credit card spending, the lack of integrity in our institutuions, even the lack of interest in overseas travel.
Good question, though.
