I am an acute care nurse who quit smoking last year. This morning I saw a woman who smoked for 20+ years. This woman was on oxygen 24/7 and struggling for every breath. She has been this way for 5 years and will probably live at least another 10 years. You tell me...is it worth it? I will never go back to smoking.

If you don't smoke, you might have ten crap years at the end of your life. All sorts of things can happen that will make you deteriorate before you die.

But if you smoke, the list of things that might happen to spoil your fun, GETS LONGER !

Quite a lot of people are active and energetic and happy, right into their 90's and beyond, and many die 'with their boots on'.

The people who choose NOT to smoke are also more likely to make other healthy choices, so it's not guaranteed, but the extra ten years are LIKELY to be more healthy, too.

if your not a smoker then those last 10 years will be just as good as any other...people who do smoke are usually in pain for more than 10 years before they die...hmmm lets weight up...probably 10 more painless carefree years or 30+ years of added pain to the smokers "life" ....who sats the last 10 years of your life are crap? they might be your best if you dont smoke...you never know!!!...my nanna died in a nursing home after many years of smoking...and left my grandad lonely..smoking could ruin other peoples last 10 years too!

I have broken my back, smoked for 40 years, drank alcohol and my lungs(according to the doctor) are those of a no-smoker, my back has healed and life is great! Don't ever think of shortening it! Leave the length of your lifetime to God.
