I am currently a first-year student taking an undergraduate program (undecided major). However, I'm interested in the medical field and was just wondering what specifically I should be taking (I reside in Ontario, Canada). What test do I need to take to get into Med school and is it based on general knowledge? Any information is highly appreciated! Thanks.

A math course, maybe more , a course in computer applications, biology, intro to human behaviour (psychology) but most of all chemistry and biology and more chemistry and biology and an undergrad course in biochem if offered.
Then search by Internet (or snail mail) some of your preferred medical schools for their entrance requirements (U of Toronto, Western, U of Ottawa etc.).
High marks overall and there is, for most med schools an 'mcat' type exam, general knowledge with a bias toward science.
You should be able to find that out in searches.

You'll need the basics like English 1&2, a couple of college level math courses, psych, sociology, child development, chemistry 1&2, bio chem, organic chem, biology 1&2, anatomy & physiology 1&2, four physics courses, genetics, the anatomy of vertebra, nutrition, and human physiology. You should also chose Human Biology as your major. Do well in all those classes and you'll have a great chance of getting into a pre-med program.

Honestly, your best bet is to go to a college that has the program you are interested in and talk to a counselor. Make sure to make an appointment, they may not have enough time to cover everything you may need if you just walk in. Also, do not be afraid to email or call any of the faculty of that department. Sometimes, you can even go to the college's website and find what you are looking for.

In the U.S., the prereqs are normally Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Organic Chemistry, and more advanced science. Check with your local universities for more exact info. In the U.S., you have to take the MCAT, and it is based on information you should have learned in college.
