we have a very influential Jewish population in this country. they have money to lobby the political parties so no matter who wins Israel will be protected. plus during the cold war the Israeli war machine was supplied by the USA in case Russia moved on the middle east. the Israelis would hold off the Russians till the USA got there. now we just support them logistically and we sell them weapons. they are the eyes and ears of America in the middle east.

World War I ended a 600-year Moslem jihad led by the Ottoman Turks. The allies had won the former Ottoman territory in the Middle East, so they set up a non-Moslem country as a decoy for the inevitable return of the jihad. So Israel is a human shield for the rest of the world. All attacks on Israel would have been against Europe, India, and America if Israel never existed.

Because the other side sucks... is evil... straps bombs to their children and sends them out to kill Innocent people, they launch missiles indiscriminately into civilian housing areas, they slaughter their own people if they even *think* they might have something to do with Israel, anytime a peace settlement is reached they go on a wild killing terrorist rampage, spend any money that is given to help the people and infrastructure on buying more bombs, bullets, weapons etc...
I could go on, but that should give even an idiot an idea of why we support Israel.

Israel was created so that the US and Britain would have a foot hold in the middle east. If we didnt support Israel they would be blown off the face of the earth in no time. They commit all sorts of terrorist acts in the middle east, but here in america they are never publicized. We need israel there to create tension in the middle east, so that we will always have an excuse to have a military presence there basically.

I agree with stephney. But there is more to it. America is more conservative than liberal. And the americans think that by supporting Israel they are fulfilling a biblical duty. That is ok, but the questions raised by Stephney are genuine, as to why its terrorist activities and blatent violation of human rights are also being supported. The only answer could be that USA is using Israel for its own narrow ends.

Their lobby is the most influential in Washington. Very few legislators are not cowed by their lobby, especially in any issues that would even remotely linked to diminishing Israel or Jewish interest at large.
Israelist prime minister said as much.

High Jewish population, Israel is the only country that is like us in the middle east.(Democratic elections etc.)
I think it is vital to support Israel (if you what Israel to exist) while it is surrounded by radical Muslim regimes.
Update:
Stephanie, you are out of your mind and massively misinformed

Think about it. Who is our only friend out there ? Who watches the backs for the American Gov't and American people out there .. don't you think they supply us with a lot of intelligence that we could only get from them ? The money we support Israel with is about the most productive and smart money that the USA spends on anything related to foreign affairs. Think about it please. Good Luck ! :)

The US goverment is so pro-Israel because the 1% of the USA's religious pupulation happens to have roots there and because they control just about everything that is significant to American life. Why do we let the1% of them have so much control?
Money talks? is that how it works? and OMG do not say anything about them or they will haunt you like Mel Gibson!!!
