You have to excuse the DA's for complaining about you asking questions I thought that was the goal of this site. The answer your teacher is looking for is private trading company (the Virginia Company) if you want to impress her tell her it was also English debtors as the Va. Company went to the King and asked for slaves to do the work, (they were called indentured slaves). They would work until they paid off their debt. So while a part of the Company they were separate as they would eventually work off their debt and be free, as well as, being free of the Virginia Company. By the way they were not looking for gold get your nose out've MTV you might get in a decent college.
