Instead of hitting the drum with short beats, hold the drumsticks lightly in your hand and let the drumsticks bounce over and over again.

Hey Boom-Boom!
Practice this. Hold your sticks loosely. What I mean is your sticks will work for you...you should not be moving your arms up and down with the sticks. The movement comes from your wrists. Practice letting the stick bounce without moving your arms. Let the tip of your stick drop to the head. Hold your sticks properly. Don't hold them tightly. Do the roll slowly . You need to take your time to get the feel off how the stick will bounce up. My drum teacher drew a circle on the drum head with a sharpie. The circle was about the size of an soda can or a bit smaller. He said "the tips of your sticks should stay inside the circle no matter how fast your roll is." That will get you started...get your best LICKS together and see you at the show!

Hit the drum in a fast even rythm alternating one stick to the other.

A roll is just a high frequency of hits. It does take practice to make and maintain the correct rythm. Keep at it and remember to keep the wrists limp (ooer missus) and allow the sticks to do the work.

try just hitting the drum with each hand(left, right, left, right) for practice. then just speed it up a little and let the sticks bounce more.

I can't but my son can. What it takes is practice, practice, practice. Also, if you are serious about drumming, take lessons. Good luck.
