That definitely depends on who you ask!! However, new technology in recent decades has brought on a whole new area of study called bioethics. These are the experts trying to figure out if science is going too far. Maybe you should look into some books on bioethics.

What is considered "too far" today is old news tomorrow...take "the earth is flat" didn't someone get in trouble for questioning that? So, you have to define what area of science you are targeting.

You are mixing humanity with science going to far...I think science can be very inhumane sometimes and they should be held accountable. Animal testing is cruel and they can find a different way to test their garbage! There will always be moral questions associated with scientific research...I think science should be monitored closely and judged accordingly.

No. Science is innovative, crossing boudaries. Defining limits is impossing dogma on scientific research.

Dogma belongs elsewhere, where it is prohibitive to question and challenge.

Too far into what? We have certainly gone too far in some directions (biological warfare, advanced weaponry, etc.). But then, I guess you could also say society has gone too far with the knowledge science brings.

It is not science that goes too far, it is people with no ethics that go too far.
e.g. porn, use of nuclear bombs, genocide, slavery, war, ...
