Help! My husband arranged for three landscapers to work "on the side" doing some yard work for us. We asked what this will cost and they said to pay them what we think is fair. There are three guys and they are working about 3-4 hours, trimming trees, removing a dead tree (we call it a twig), removing weeds, and removing what they cut away from the trees, etc. My question is what is fair? They are doing a nice job and I don't want to be cheap.

I work in the landscape industry in S. Texas and I know the labor market
well here, but don't know where you're at. But, if they work like you want and
if you like their work, for 4 hrs., $ 60.00 per person is fair - cash money -
no checks. If your yard is 100% nicer to look at than it was before they started,
then that's fair. And also, if they are hauling the spoils off, that's extra time
and work on their part. If you're really pleased, you might kick in a little bit
more.. You'd be surprised what real landscape co. charges what with over
head, taxes, etc.

The average landscaper earns 15 to 20 dollars an hour. So if you want to be gracious then pay them each 25 an hour each. I'm not trying to sound racist or anything but the average Mexican worker around Columbus, Ohio earns about 8 dollars an hour landscaping. Thats just the way business owners pay around here.

I would suggest pulling out the good old phone book. Call other landscapers in your area and get a "quote" for the work you just described. Pay them the same. It's a great deal for them since there is no tax taken out.

You have total manhours at about 12 hours, 3 guys x 4 hours... the average landscape rate for that type of work is 60.00 per hour, plus any materials used.....Fair price should be about 720.00 dollars....12 hours X 60.00 dolars= 720.00...I own my own sprinkler and landscape company and estimate these type of projects all the time

Oh heaven... Don't you hate that mind game.

Well, ask your neighbors, get an average for what they have paid contractors to do the same thing. I know that arborists alone charge an arm and a leg to trim trees.

A couple hundred, split by three?

It depends on where you live. In California, the hourly pay would be $15-20. Maybe the same as what you'd pay a housekeeper in your area.

ask around to see what the going rate is around your area for groundskeeping. ask , also , how the 'hired hands' get paid. (big difference. the middle man takes a lot) make sure you make it worth their time to be there. they could be at home with their families, instead, they are at your house making money for their families.
around my area about 10 dollars per hour , per person.
it also depends on how often they are working for you. just think about it this way:
you keep them happy - they'll keep you happy.
remember them at holiday time. remember to invite them to cookouts. slide some extra cash when you have it. remember to ask about their wives and children. make them lemonaid and cookies.

It depends on how hard the job was and how skilled they were. I was going to say much less than the other answers, so at this point I would guess maybe $100. each.

Sleep with them. That should pay them off.
