The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is actually a combination of killers in the US. One of which did live in here in Texas (Texarkana). He was a third generation serial killer (his grandfather taught his father, who taught him.) (I say "he" because I don't remember his name.) The first movie released about the incidents was titled "The Town that Dreaded Sundown" released in the 70's. The skin "harvesting" in the TCM was adopted from Eddie Gein who lived Wisconsin. Gein killed just a few people; however, he would dig up fresh graves, exhume the body and attempt to "breath life" into them again. Later he would harvest the skin and make clothes with it. Eddie Gein inspired Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, TCM, as well as Psycho.

crimelibrary.com is a great source on all serial killers, mass murders, etc.
Careful though, it sucks you in. I've wasted many hours of work on that site.
