From my experiences, sugaring your lawn is to help increase the "micro-herd" of good bacteria/fungus, etc., that help maintain the balances of the living organisms, plus can be used somewhat by the plants by feeding the root system.
However, too much can kill off nematodes that are beneficial in controlling bad parasites such as other nematodes, grubs, etc.
This practice has been used by people to help clear up "dog spots".
It feeds and helps bacteria digest the dead grass by converting the nitrogen of dog urine into the type of nitrogen the grass plants can use.
If you're looking for an "organic" weed and feed, put down "corn gluten meal", available at most cattle-feed suppliers.
This will give you the results you are seeking, as a pre-emergent and natural fertilizer.
If you find it at a garden center, it will cost more. Seek out a cattle-feed supplier.
Hope this helps, Dave

IF the weeds don't kill it, the ants will...you'll have a ton of ants if you put sugar on your lawn.
