the myth was born from the romps of catherine the great of russia. she never did have sex with a stallion but allows stories of such to run wild.
from this can the other stories, books and movies. they are more imagination that factual records. in case you didn't know, a member of a male horse is as large as a human arm. a woman could hold it and no man can compete.
