I strongly agree that we are a country that not only glamorizes violence, but our so-called freedoms "press, speech, right to bear arms" actually constitute most of the violence we observe in our society. I currently live in the Middle East for 2 years now, as a female I can walk the streets alone in a dark alley if I please, without the fear of being raped, robbed, or killed. You never hear of situation such as what recently happened in the Amish community some nut case holding many little girls hostage. And I am talking about general violence. Not was as some of the idiots seem to indicate when speaking of the middle east, naturally war is VIOLENT, and any country actively engaged in a war would be acting violently. But most middle easterners and other not in war actually live non-violently. I listen to Egyptian songs and find not one single profane word, nothing derogatory towards women, calling them "B's" or Whores, and boasting in some rap song about your Uzi, and their movies are mostly romance or war, not glamorizing violence as you see even in our video games, i.e. Bullet Proof.

According to a report by the U.N. South Africa is the most violent countries in the world, and the most violent developed country is Scottland. Somalia is another one in the top 5 category, along with England believe it or not. So of the top five, only one middle eastern country and that's Iraq, and gee they are engage in a very violent war, no wonder.

Yes we are a violent society and yes we do have the "freedoms" that allow us to "express" ourselves violently.

I would like to say no. But I think we could quite possibly be the most violent. There are violent and repressive forms of government (dictators) around the globe, but the general populations of those societies are not very violent. Although the Rwanda mess a few years ago made me doubt that belief. 1 million people were killed in a month because of ethnic cleansing. That has never happened in the United States. Although the Civil War was VERY bloody. But I think as the economy goes down the toilet, this society will go from violent to extremely violent.

We are all the same every single individual on earth is the same so the answer to your question is no, we are the same only we have better technology and weapons. War makes money for those in power and distracts the populace from truths in governing. These are well known forms of manipulation from centuries of written history. Aurthur C Clark recently stated that unless we curb or control the basic human aggressive state that we will not survive to spread humanity to the stars insuring our true future survival. But to do this we must eliminate dogma and as we can see that will be along time in the future. We have become a society of sociopaths and compulsive liars not a good mix for enlightened human survival.

Far from it. If you think we're the most violent society then just look at some of the third world countries where children carry guns and fight in wars! or where Arabs brainwash their youths into strapping bombs to themselves to blow innocents up! We may idolize power and violence but just think of nature. A society of lions practically worships the alpha male because they know he can fight off any foe and protect their young. It's in our nature to respect strength and power

Hmmm...

In some Middle-eastern and some South-American countries, families keep full-auto UZIs and AK-47s as a home defense necessity.

But USA is pretty damn violent.

No, we are definitely not the most violent society on this planet. We are currently fighting the most violent society on the planet, the terrorists, we use the Geneva Convention and they torture then kill P.O.W's. so therefore the terrorists are the most violent society.

You may thank the liberal democrats with their extreme interpretation of the Freedom of Speech.
60 years ago there were safeguards in our society that prevented just what you are talking about. Are we better off now?
