If we celebrate Columbus day, why not have a holiday for all terrorists? Columbus never even set foot on North America, let alone discover it. We might as well celbrate Osama Bin Laden day, or how about Hitler day? I'm not saying that they are good people, but Columbus did similar things to Natives that Hitler did to Jews. Raping, stealing, killing, kidnapping, racism, oppression....... Why should he be considered a hero? He accidentally landed on someone else's land and then claimed it as Spain's.

We don't all celebrate it. In my children's (private) school, the day has been renamed "Indigenous Peoples Day" and is celebrated as such, and is preceded and followed by a REAL history lesson.

Columbus day is celebrated because at the time it was established thier was a large Italian american population that congressmen wanted to woo and that they did even though it was commom knowledge that the Indians did not far well from Columbus suppositely 'discovering' a land that had people and resources already

You're right, in a way. Columbus didn't find America. America Vespucci did. but Columbus did find what he was looking for so he turned around. He just wanted a place to land on the way around the world to the orient...going the other way around. And he was like Thomas Edison...who didn't invent the light bulb at all...but got the credit. History is a mess...Washington didn't even chop down a cherry tree. etc.. and the biggest part of your argument is 100% on target "How can you find something with a person (native) standing on it.?) Ahh well...blame it on white imperialistic view of history. If you want good history on anything you need to see it from "both" sides. You sound intellectually mature....never stop questioning anything.
