My mom is fairly conservative thinking.
I really wanted to ride a motorcycle, and she uses safety issue to disapprove me. I mean I am already 20, you would think I could make my own decision, But, no, I am in college and broke. That is the reason I need her approval.
I already said I would wear helmet and drive locally. I said I need a bike to get around the campus thats all.
again, she is blinded and kept saying motorcycle is unsafe.
what should I tell her?
any idea.?
Is motorcycle really unsafe?

Check out the college you are attending for a motorcycle safety coarse. This will at least show her you are serious about the safety issues. If you take this you will be able to present the completion cert to your local DMV for your license endorsement plus you will get a discount on your insurance. Hope this will help. Motorcycles are only as dangerous as their drivers & the people around them.

Take a Motorcycle Safety Course. The tuition is oftten tax deductible as an "education" expense. Additionally, some Insurance Co.s will give you as much as a "three year riding experience" discount. The most important reason though, is, because you will learn useful skills that will put you years ahead of "self-taught" riders. I have taught Motorcycle Courses for eight years. I have been riding motorcycles since 1976.
Motorcycles are much safer than cars. They can accelerate quicker and stop sooner. They can out-manouver any four-wheeled vehicle, anytime. They get far better gas mileage than most cars/trucks. Insurance is cheaper. They cause less wear and tear on our roads. Often places will have "motorcycle only" designated parking spots. Either way, motorcycles are easier to find parking places for. They contribute less to global warming, cause less damage to the Ozone layer. They are an environmentally-friendly mode of transporation. See, Bikers are really tree huggers deep down. They are also, a lot more fun than being in a car. In a car/truck, it is like you are sitting on your couch watching the scenery through a TV screen. On a motorcycle, you ARE the scenery. If you really want a motorcycle, you will eventually get one. Unfortunately, as long as you are financially dependant on Mom, you pretty much HAVE to oblige her.

They saying goes that if you own a motorcycle, at some point you will have to put it down. So in other words, even the safest and most experienced riders have had at least one accident.
While a lot of fun, the chances of you getting into an accident and most likely suffering injury is high. You're terribly exposed and even the best of safety gear cannot protect you fully. I've seen some moronic driving around motorcycles and witnessed far to many horrible accidents. There isn't much you can do on a motorcycle to avoid collisions or injury.
You're mom probably just likes having you around and having you in one piece.

Ask for a scooter instead. Talk about compromise, helmet. I would rather have a bicycle to get around on campus. You have to park a motorcycle in a space like a car, but a bike you can chain to anything. Look at some really cool bikes here at www.lovelylowrider.com!

You have to point out the good factors to having a bike. For a college student...... amount of money being spent on gas is low, You would never drink and ride( you might just fall over won't get to far), motovation to working harder in school, and you such a desire to have a bike that you wouldn't do anything to mess it up. Point out the fact that you moving towards adult with her help. And that your are trying to prove yourself her. And it's better to get your experience while you are young.
Motorcycles are unsafe to the type of rider, but.... car and trucks are your enemy on the road and can't see worth s%!t in there blind spot. So be careful

You might show her this link below. To answer the second part they are more unsafe than cars. due to the fact that they start out with 2 wheels less I have been riding motorcycles of one sort or another for 51years since 16 and have (KNOCK ON WOOD) only had one serious accident and it was the cagers (Cars) fault but thanks to ATGATT I only had a broken collar bone and a few bruises and scrapes.

Speaking from experience, it is tough riding a motorcycle just about anywhere these days. It is not a question of the riders skills it more the other motorists inattention to driving using cell phones talking, eating and other distractions, you really are putting yourself at risk, I can not fault her for her reluctance to agree. Sorry, I did not see him will not console your mom at your funeral. Sorry to sound so pessimistic, but it truely is dangerous riding a motorcycle.

This may work, tell her to understand that fuel economy is better in a motorcycle, than a car. And dont get a rice rocket. Just get a 250-400cc motorcycle, and get your motorcycle endorsement (if your state requires it), and if not, take the motorcycle class anyway, to show her you know what you are doing.....i hope that might work.....

As much fun as you think you are going to have with the motorcycle is about the same amount of worry your mother will have. I know that if you were mine I would be in a panic every time you went out. No matter how old you are you will always be her baby.

With the power and balance of a motorcycle they are inherently unsafe particularly in inexperienced hands. They are really dangerous in the rain. Listen to misskate, and remember what happened to Ben Roethlisberger of the Steelers.
