im 16 and i have been having some pains like in my lower abdomen, before and after my periods and i dont know what it is. My periods have been to frequent and heavy. like i will have 2 periods every month then after that i wont get one. they are heavy i change a pad every hour. I havent told anybody about this not my mom, dad, aunt or anybody. I dont really want to see a doctor because i have this privacy issue going on and i dont believe i will be comfortable with anthing they will have to do. I havent even discussed this with my pediatrician and im not too sure if i should or shouldnt. I just want to know whether it is serious or can i just let this go. Im not to good with pain and i really do want it to go away but im so freaked out right about now. Im not sexually active in any way,(waiting for that special person in marriage). Oh yeah i started my period when i was 11 and now im 16 and i know they should be regular now but i dont want to see a gyno. Please help me . Thanks

Girl, thats what gyno's and doctors are for. There's no other way to treat this then going to the doctor. If your periods are all the time you probably have a high iron count. If you go to a doctor I guarantee that you will feel so much better. And don't worry about being embarrased. A doctor will never say anything bad about anything and there just there to help you. There's no way you can just make it "go away" by yourself. You doctor might not even look down there, instead she just might ask you some questions about your diet and tell you how to treat it. I would first suggest going to your pediatricion and recommend a girl doctor.

Hi dear,
You should really confide in your mom. I am sure she may have had a similar experience. In my life, periods sometimes are not consistent. A doctor would probably put you on the pill...don't freak out. It actually helps to decrease pain, heavy bleeding and alleviate pain.
Unfortunatley, painful periods can be a way of life for some people.
However, I would get this checked out right away. It could be possible that you have a cyst on your ovary (nothing to be worried about).
Talk to you mom and go to the doctor. As much as it sucks, you need to look after your health.
I have had all of the symptoms as above, and telling someone made all the difference in the world.

OK - you know what to do. You have to speak with your Mom and you probably need to see a doctor. It may not be anything, but honey, you need to find out for sure.
We all feel self-conscience when we start seeing a gynie and for some of us it never gets better, but you do what you have to do. The doctor is medically trained and not there to oogle you. Maybe you would feel more comfortable with a woman doctor....my daughter was more comfortable in the beginning with a female. If you Mom's doctor is male I am sure he could recommend a female gynie for you.
By the way, good for you for staying sexually inactive at this time. That is the right thing for a 16 year old and I know how difficult it is in this day and age. I am sure that your mom and any doctor you see will appreciate your maturity.
PS - Mom can go in with you and hold your hand if you would feel more comfortable. A hint: I kind of lay on the table and hum a song in my head while being examined. I won't kid you, seeing the gynie is not fun, but going through what you are experiencing isn't either. Go find out if anything is wrong. It's probably just goofy hormones and can be fixed easily...perhaps you need to be on the pill (not for birth control - just to regulate you).
Talk to Mom - she will understand and know how to help you. Good luck! I will be thinking about you.

Its probably not serious, but i definitely would suggest you c a gyno...u might have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which 1 in 10 women have and its not a danger to you... but its to do with problems in ovulation...iiregular periods and extreme craps are some symptoms... go check it out...google it and see if you can relate to any of it... but more importantly see a doc hun, i know its hard because ur 16 and probably need a parent or guardian to go with you but gynos are usually very nice and easy to talk to and its not uncomfortable at all...good luck and look after yourself

You wont know if its serious until you see a doc, and you should at least tell your mom.
You shouldnt be having 2 periods a month either, thats not normal. A doc may be able to help you, but until you can get over this privacy thing, you wont get better. Think about it.

You probably will have to tell your mom. Would you feel a little more at ease with a female doctor? You can get very anemic if you ignore this. You could be hypothyroid or you may have fibroids. I'm afraid you do need to see a doctor.

No one really likes going to the doctor but sometimes there is little alternative. You really should see a doctor. Best of luck.

I think you should tell your mother, although they will probably take you to the doctor, but something could be really wrong. If you'ren ot sexually active them you should have nothing to worry about. Or tell your school nurse, maybe she could halp you out.

This would not be considered normal, and although you don't want to see a gyno, I would strongly advise it anyway. A peditrician would probably just refer you to the gyno, anyway. Your hormones sound messed up.....
