I have a Lincoln Towncar 91 model. I was driving from home to work this morning and I happened to notice the air suspension sign active. What does it mean? Any help?

If it is something I need to get checked with a mechanic, how much would it cost me? Could you suggest me a cheap place to get it fixed?

Thank you.

Any Lincoln equipped with air suspension is not cheap to fix unfortunately. Especially the air bags. On Continentals, there are FOUR at $800.00 EACH. Add to that, the $500.00 for the compressor, and that's one pretty damn expensive suspension system!! On your '91 Town Car however, there are only TWO air bags, which are situated at the rear axle of the car. You can substitute Crown Victoria, or Grand Marquis rear springs in place of the air bags if necessary. In my own personal opinion, the air bag suspension system doesn't make the quality of the ride that much better, at least not to the point where spending that kind of money to fix it is justified. Hope this helps.

If your air bag system is defective and is going to cost a ton of $
simply scrap it and have the conversion done to Coil over Strut
suspension like most cars..... these kits are available through
Auto Parts stores such as O'reilly Auto parts and other stores as
well. The conversion kit is around 500 for all four new struts and
a module to plug in the trunk to disable the air pump function.
It gives a nice trouble free ride.....

remove windshield washer reservoir. Compressor is lower than it. 91 has a valve to pump it up with air hose. The valve isn't present day on later fashions. If compressor is operating, then probable air luggage leaking. If compressor isn't operating, first examine fuses. probable compressor has died. restore through replacing compressor and/or air luggage, or convert to coil springs.
