Many hunters will tell you that being out in the woods is far more important than killing an animal like a deer. The smell of the wet leaves on the forest floor, the feel of the cold winter air, the sound of a woodpecker pecking for worms in the rotting tree. The chance to stretch the office stiffened legs, the feeling of being one with nature. These are some of the really important things that makes hunting so great.
But, and it's a real big but ,if a nice big buck is spotted, and nature-boy in his excitement fires and misses, he grumbles and curses. His whole hunt is ruined. He's hard to live with for a long time. Why, he got his fresh air, his exercise, his smell of the woods, his woodpecker. He got it all except one thing, the blood.

Ok I'll make a reference to high school cross country where we said "it's gotta be the going...." meaning that every day at practice, and all the normal meets have to be good. otherwise winning the conference meet won't be as good: Enjoy yourself along the way, not just when you get to the destination.
Think about life. Life is a journey towards death. Don't you think the thrill will be the journey......

for a lot of hunters, yes.
There are also those nut jobs just this side of being featured on the evening news, but for the people I know that hunt, the kill is gratifying and often desired, but not needed to enjoy the hunt
