Well you love writing but want a career that you can count on. You also said you like administrative work. Possibly consider going into working at a newspaper or puplisher, even if it isn't doing any actual writing, just being in the enviroment would keep you interested and in a job that isn't as risky. At the same time you can practice your writing as a hobby. Than possibly start making money off writing and than you can choose to make a career change later. And if your in the industry you'll already have contacts that might help you get your writing off the ground.

Only you can make this decision. However, higher education... whether it's a trade school, Jr. College, or 4 year university is always a good way to help you get a good job. You like to write... but you may have to make that your hobby. By the way, in order to have much success in this area, you probably need to improve your knowledge of grammar, punctuation your writing skills.
Talk to friends - look at different lines of work... and find out what the entry salary is...and what the potential for a higher income. You need to make up your mind to be happy wherever you are. Look for the things you like in a job.... or any situation....and then look at the things you do not like. Then decide if the things you like outweigh the things you don't like. Then, dwell only on the positive...and try to make the boring...more interesting. You can really do this. Your happiness begins within YOU and your attitude toward your job, your life, etc. Maybe you could go to college.... and be an English Teacher...then you could do your writing on the side. If you love school....and apply yourself..maybe you could get a master's....maybe a doctorate degree...and teach literature at the college level. You can get financial aid to pay your expenses of school....and any loans can be paid back after you are out of college. Grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid. Good luck.
Again, you decide your own happiness...your own fate. Maybe you should sit down and write out the pros and cons of what you are considering for the future.

I would suggest a career in sales.
Simply put, you can make the most amount of money in the least amount of time.
If you're the type of person that is outgoing and enjoys meeting new people and communicating ideas, sales is a great medium for making a good living and having fun doing it. Since you mentioned your passion for writing; it might be a good idea to get a job in the publishing industry, which might not necessarily have to be a sales position. Even if you get an admin position, you'll be exposed to a lot of people and things that you expressed interest in above.
Working in this environment should provide the money you need to live, while keeping your interest levels and creative juices running at the same time.
Good luck

Work where the money is, and be creative in your spare time.
If you should be successful enough, you can always quit your job...but most authors, artists, musicians, just do it on the side...there are millions of talented people in this world...it is very very tough to make it, and under pressure your mind could go blank. So enjoy writing, submit in contests, read in public...maybe you will be one of the few lucky ones to be discovered. How about writing us a sample here?

Maybe you should try teaching. Yes, I know teachers aren't the highest payed people in the world, but they do make enough to "pay the bills" Also, if you become a teacher, you would have an opportunity to teach others how to write and you could probably continue writing on the side.

Pick a job that you are good at and can tolerate and that will pay the bills. Then do what you love on the side, eventually you might be able to get it going enough to pay the bills with it and quit your regular job.

If you're enrolled at a college now, I would recommend doing career counseling. It's free if you're a student. It helped me tremendously. You really do have to balance everything that is important to you, including risks and family. Nobody can tell you what to do, including the career assessments. But someone can help you explore what is most important to you.

You need to pay the bills.....that's a cruel reality. Why not study something that you enjoy, but also translates to a paycheck when you finish school. If you enjoy literature, why not teach it ?That way you will have every summer off to work on your poetry.

you know what that test told me once ? I would make a great nun , rofl what little did they know they didnt ask any personal questions. DO what you love, life is short. YOU DONT want to have a job you hate then you become miserable and your child will see it, let your child see you become your dream.
It might be hard but you can do it!
