Ever since 1965 Porsche has been making 911.
When the body style changes, they use a new number for factory purposes.
So yes the 996 is a 911 - but that body style was from 1999-2005.
Hope that helps.

Running across a question like this leaves one wondering if it's just a BS question trying to show off, or if there is a legitimate question that is being asked with lots of show off BS put on top of it. That is to say, if you had a 996 for 11 years that you had been tracking, and regularly tracking, you really wouldn't have any question about this. If you are in Southern CA, then you would have been regularly driving to places like Willow Springs, Spring Mountain, Button Willow... actually to get to 134k on the car, you'd probably be hitting Reno-Fernley and Thunderhill too. Which is to say, you'd have been driving the car much further than 200 miles through desert conditions for 11 years, and then driving it even harder under more extreme conditions at the track before coming back more than 200 miles through those same conditions. And after doing that for 11 years you have some question about if you can make it to Las Vegas or if it's a good idea? Really? And then you go on about how you've added a K&N and "all the goodies?" So you're again trying to brag... at least I think, but will add that if a K&N is a somewhat questionable upgrade in that it might be an extremely minor upgrade (EXTREMELY minor), or a fairly major downgrade depending on the data you look at... and "all the goodies," well, if you actually knew what all the goodies were and had them I suspect you'd probably not care about mentioning them since they really don't have any relevance to the question (unless it's added cooling capacity... which isn't really an issue with the 996 cars). But, on the off chance that there is an actual question behind all the BS... if the car is in good working order, then there should be no issue. The car has above average miles for it's age, so there is no concern about trying to keep mileage low for resale value, and there is no issue in terms of reliability of the car under what is, a pretty minor and uneventful drive (really, this time of year? Wouldn't be much of an issue even for cars that might otherwise have issues in high heat).
