A ritual is a repeatable action, done in the context of a specific community, which expresses, inculcates and reinforces the shared values and world-view of that community.

(The community need not be present, but the community must recognize the importance and validity of the ritual in order for the ritual to be considered religious. When rituals are performed outside of the context of a community, they are often viewed as psychological aberrations.)
