Aw, who the heck knows.

Now, on the other hand, the Dutch have a (well-earned) reputation for being fastidious beyond bearing, and no one knows why they are obsessed with cleanliness, either.

All I can say is, I'm Dutch-German in ancestry, and I feel driven by both these demons, but, boy, does my house twinkle with cleanliness and order.

they've been cut down for being late to organize their "official" nation state. they've been scrutinized over their failure in a couple world wars. they are essentially good people, but yeah they are screwed kinda tight.
