What are the pros and cons of working in Iraq?

Pros- Money, experience that can be obtained no where else in the world, the statisfaction of knowing you are doing something useful and you will be able to tell your grandchildren that you were brave enough to work in a war torn country unarmed. About the money, the job that I did in Iraq while in the Army pays in the civilian sector a starting salary of $98K!

Con- You go alone. You won't see you family for a minimum of 6 months. BTW cilvilian contrator to death rate is slim to none. Less than 10 U.S. civilians contractors have been murdered in Iraq with truck drivers being the most.

Weather- It is not at all hot from Nov.- March. In fact, When I got there in Jan. it was 75 degrees F. around the clock for practicaly 3 months. It does get hot but there is no humidity.

For those I know working there, the money is the big draw; as you indicate though, you know the reason for the money is the risk you take on being an American in Iraq. So the biggest pro is the money... but beyond the biggest con of the risk to yourself, I'd feel too far away from my family and friends.

What kind of work are you referring to in Iraq?

the Pros- Gobs of Money...They are paying HUGE sums of money to have people work is certain areas. Possibly tax free.

Cons - It's only temporary work. Major language differences. Cultural differences., It' HOT, Lack of abundant "western style" amenities. The people of the area see foreigners as occupiers and really don't like us, but tolerate us.......And the biggie as you already stated...Death.

get caught by the wrong people means err......
have bombs on the street, see dead people and have
us soldiers abandon u when u need help from an ambush.
