Every one's taste is different. The thing I believe is the main reason is because a lot of people do not have respect for others. If you enjoy one type of music, you should respect another persons choice. Imposing your music on others is a sure way to cause a general dislike for it. Playing your music loud when it annoys others is rude. Trying to enjoy yourself when your neighbor plays their music loudly or driving through a neighborhood with 20 million watts shaking the windows or cranking up the volume in a public place are some examples. I spend a lot of time walking my dogs in a city park where there is a play ground that parents bring their children to play. Why do some jerks always come around playing music with obscene lyrics full blast? I suppose they think it's kool, but it sure makes a lot of people upset. Now I like to play my music loud, but I make sure it isn't bothering others.

I think people take the music they listen to as a mirror of themselves. Music is a very personal thing, so when someone doesn't like what someone else listens too, they take it as an attack personally. It's the same thing with religion or even the types of food people like. Basically if people would be more open minded there wouldn't be so much conflict with trivial things like that.

some people are just scarred of change or different things. i personally like just about every type of music except blue grass. but i would never not like someone for it. everybody has so much to offer the world that whoever doesn't like someone for that reason is missing out on a whole lot. they shouldn't be so shallow, ya feel me

Because people don't know how to be open minded to other people's opinions anymore. And they don't consider the fact that there is probably people who don't like their type of music.

Ew I don't kno but its weird. I like alternative music & all three of my best friends like rap & pop. It honestly doesn't matter to me tho .. I like being different. But its cool to have a few friends w. your music taste to go to concerts w. & stuff. But yea .. I loveee meeting new people who like my fav. bands but if they don't I don't hate them. Its fun having stuff in common w. people but people shouldn't rule out a friendship w. someone because of conflicting interests. That happens w. everything tho [esp.] music, politics, religion, style. Whatever. Thats society for ya.

Me and my friends don't care if you don't like the type of music we listen to. Like my friend likes AFI I hate them but we're still friends. It does help if people like the same type of music because you can talk about it, but we're friends with people who don't like rock. We do make fun of this one girl because she pretends to like the same music as us but it's the fact that she pretends and looks like a total idiot.

It's just one more way to categorize people and give them an excuse to not like some one. They probably already had it in their brain not to like them anyway and the music is only an excuse.
